Tribute

Robert Glynn Feenan
Longtime Flathead Valley resident, Robert Glynn Feenan “Bob”, passed away peacefully at home Friday, May 28, 2021. He was 97 years old.  Bob was born November 4, 1923, in Columbia Falls, Montana on the family farm.  The Feenan farm was homesteaded in 1897.  Bob’s father, Frank, was born in Fletcher, Ontario, Canada and Nora, his mother, in Ballinrobe, County Mayo, Ireland.  They met in Anaconda, Montana, where they were married and started their family – 2 children.  Frank and Nora moved the family to the homestead in 1910 which was deeded to him by his sister, a nurse from Detroit.  They added 4 more to their family of which Bob was the youngest.
Bob attended Valentine Grade School and graduated from Columbia Falls High School in 1941.  He attended Wayne State University in Detroit, earning a BS degree in Education. He honorably served in the Army during WW II. He was working on his Master’s degree and was offered a teaching position at Los Angeles Trade Tech but declined it when he had to return to the farm to help out.
Bob worked at the Veteran’s Home near Columbia Falls for 13 years and served several terms as Deputy Sheriff in Kalispell under long-time friend and neighbor, Sheriff, Dick Walsh.  He also served in the County Treasurer’s Office for 8 years.
Bob married June Wood Munski on July 17, 1993.  Dick Walsh, his best friend, was his best man.  Bob knew June from childhood.  She grew up on a neighboring farm, also attended Valentine Grade School, and graduated Columbia Falls High School in 1945. When Bob married June, he was blessed with all of June’s family.  Bob and June enjoyed their golden years together residing in the family home in Whitefish, but they could also be found at the farm and Beaver Lake during the spring and summer and became “snowbirds” in Quartzsite, Arizona in the winter.
Since June’s death, January 21 ,2014, Bob has remained at the family home in Whitefish being cared for and loved by June’s family.  Bob was a very soft-spoken and kind man who would rather use his brain than his brawn.  He was a proud Irish, Catholic Democrat.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, June Munski Feenan, his parents, Frank & Nora Feenan, brothers John, Bill, Fred and Tom, and his sister, Mary Feenan Cavanaugh, along with nieces and nephews.  He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews on the Feenan side as well as June’s daughters, granddaughters, and great grandchildren.  In leu of flowers please make donations to the Veteran’s Pantry in Kalispell. There will be a funeral service at St. Charles Catholic Church with a graveside service planned for later this summer.
